Hello! Welcome to "Cracking Down Chemistry!". "Cracking Down Chemistry" is an app that I've programmed and coded for those who are interested in learning more about science. It's a fun quiz for players to test their knowledge of the elements and symbols from the periodic table. Enjoy!

Inspiration:

The challenge, issue, or need that my project addresses is education. Specifically, it is designed to educate the user about science in the Chemistry field. The purpose of the “Cracking Down Chemistry” app is to test the user’s ability to identify a random element from the periodic table based on information regarding the element like the symbol, atomic number, and uses. My project was built using code.org. I used coding to help to develop my app from scratch.

A Project Demo

Here is a video showing a demo of the project and how the app works. The video shows how the user provides their input. It also demonstrates what happens when the user’s input is correct, or incorrect, and the result of clicking the “More Info” button for an element. The user inputs a string into the text box based on randomly generated information (a random element symbol, the atomic number, and the uses) and then submits their input by clicking the “Submit” button. The output, which is a statement stating whether the user is incorrect or not, is displayed on the screen. Additional information regarding the element is also outputted when the user clicks the “More Info” button if they choose to learn more about the element.

Abstract Background

This app was created for educational purposes. The main purpose is to educate users on some basic Chemistry knowledge like identifying the elements from the periodic table. The app was also made for entertainment purposes. As the user is learning about the different types of elements, they test their knowledge out in the process! Try it out for yourself!

The Design Process

Blurry Gradient

The idea for this project was created from my desire to want to educate people about science. The app has evolved over time because components of the apps were added like the "More Info" button. Additional information for an element was also provided for the user to generate their guess. This project works through user interaction. As long as the user is interacting with the app by typing in guesses, and pressing buttons then the app will work.
