My Project

My project was created on Code.org, using App Labs. It is a trivia game based on the periodic table and users are tested on how well they know their elements through two categories, the element group and its uses. Users can use a periodic table to assist them in guessing the element. My app was created for educational purposes, mostly for students in chemistry, as well as students who want to learn all the elements in the periodic table. Users can replay the app as many times needed and even if the user is not using a periodic table, an entire list of elements is shown after guessing one element for reference.

My Inspiration

My app was based off of a trivia game on App Lab, testing users on people who have won the Nobel Peace Prize, as well as when they received the award. Instead of creating another app with the same idea, I decided to simplify the app features, and change the topic to periodic table elements, to create an educational, as well as time-killing app students can use to learn more about the elements in the periodic table. At first a game was going to be created, matching elements to their group and uses, however an app seemed simpler and more straightforward for educational use.

My Design Process

At first I wanted to do an app based on one of the trivia data in app lab, but it seemed standard and most likely users wouldn't know the trivia unless they were very knowledge on the topic. I then decided to go with the periodic table to make it educational as well as pick it because it is a topic most people know. The theme in the app lab is pastel blue-green and uses a different color for each label to make them pop. My project functions through three screens; the starting screen, game screen, and result screen. Although the result screen is partially functional, users are able to start the game, input an element guess, and then see whether their guess was correct or not. If it was further developed, a list of elements would be seen under the user's result.
